Allergies, ear mites, yeast and bacterial infections are the most common ear afflictions. There are some basic signs that indicate that your cat might have one of these problems. Signs include odor, scratching or rubbing ears, discharge in ears, pain around ears, and shaking of head.

The ear is then cleaned with the cotton ball. Depending on the solution, the ears may need to be cleaned from three times a day to every other day. • Bacterial or Yeast Infections – Apple Cider Vinegar Apple Cider Vinegar is the most commonly mentioned home remedy in regards to cat ear problems. To treat the infection it is recommended by many pet owners that a solution of 50 percent cider and 50 percent water is combined in a spray bottle and sprayed into the infected ears at least once a day.

Your Cat's Ears

A cat’s inner ear canal turns like the letter "J." This makes them prone to infection. It also makes them more difficult to clean. A cotton ball and some sort of cleaning solution is the best way to clean the ears. Avoid using a cotton swab, which can push material deeper into the ear canal, impact it, then make the problem worse.

You should always try to keep your cat’s ears clean by checking them on a weekly basis and watching for behavior which could indicate an ear problem. This will ensure that your cat is a healthy and happy member of your family.

Your Veterinarian
