A dog zip line is a great way for you and your dog to get some much needed exercise in a safe and secure environment. A zip line is essentially a cord strung between two objects. A leash is attached to the chord, and the other end attached to your dog's collar, allowing your dog to run and walk the length of the zip line. A zip line normally would be attached between two pre-existing sturdy objects such as trees or your house, but you can make a perfectly safe zip line with only a few easily attained items.

Dig two holes for the fence posts however far apart you wish your zip line to be. The holes need to be deep enough that the post will be secure once it is placed into the hole. There is no standard size for a dog zip line, so judge your dog's size and energy levels before determining the length of the line. For example, a golden retriever's zip line should be 20 to 30 feet long, whereas a Yorkie's only needs to be 10 feet.

Secure the posts into the holes. There should now be six feet of exposed post above the ground level.

Attach one end of the chord to each post. To secure it properly, wrap the chord around the post several times before tying a knot. Using a hammer and metal staples, apply several staples around the chord.

Slide the end of your dog's leash onto through the carabiner and attach it to the zip line.

Attach the clip on the end of your dog's leash to your dogs collar.
