When you suffer from the loss of a pet, such as your family dog, it can be a difficult and emotional time. Keep in mind during the mourning process that there is no wrong way to grieve the loss of your beloved dog. Some people, for example, find comfort in keeping a piece of their dog’s fur as a reminder that their faithful companion is always with them. If this sounds like it might be comforting to you, there are things you can do to preserve the piece of fur.

Figure out what you want to keep the fur in. To preserve it, you must keep it inside a tightly closed container. Some popular options include an ornament or a locket. Some creation service companies or veterinarian offices offer items made specifically for this purpose.

Place the piece of fur gently inside the item you chose to preserve the fur in.

Tuck the fur in on all sides to make sure it will be completely enclosed. Snap the item shut to lock the fur inside.

Avoid opening the item the fur is preserved it. It will stay better preserved inside the item than when it is exposed.
