Items you will need
1 cup distilled water
1 cup 3 percent hydrogen peroxide
Tear staining occurs with most Bichon Frises. It is generally a superficial cosmetic issue, but it is important to have your dog checked by a veterinarian to rule out any serious causes. Tear staining can be caused by food allergies, seasonal allergies, tear duct blockages or eye infections. To improve the dark appearance of the stains, you should clean your Bichon Frise's face at least once a day with a homemade solution.
Pour the water and hydrogen peroxide through a funnel into a clean, empty spray bottle. Screw the top onto the spray bottle and shake it up to ensure that the two ingredients mix.
Spray the solution onto a cotton ball. Gently wipe the stained facial fur. Be sure not to get any of the solution in your Bichon Frise's eyes. Do this once or twice a day as needed.
Keep the fur near your dog's eyes neatly trimmed to lessen the chance of tear staining. You may also avoid feeding food with added color to your Bichon Frise, as this has been linked to an increased intensity of tear staining.
When using the cleaning solution, avoid contact with your dog's eyes as well as your own. Wash your hands after using the solution to avoid accidental irritation.
